on purging.

I'm pretty convinced that as Rocky or Hoosiers is to motivating one for competition, Hoarders is for motivation to purge. And though I didn't have to dial up an episode for this last attack on the closet, I know they're there...should I need them.

All I needed was some weather with serious commitment issues (what season is it, exactly?!) and drawers and a closet that were bearing the brunt of too many seasons/clothes, not enough space.

And though I'm pretty good about continually throwing things out (I come by it pretty naturally--I don't think my father has ever kept anything for the sake of sentimentality...in fact, I can feel him beaming with pride as he reads this) everything needed a good overhaul. You just need a little time and the right mood and...bam...(I've been known to give an entire rubbermaid of clothes away without even opening it up to see what was in it).

So this past Thursday, I literally got rid of clothes from the past 10 years in every shape, size, color, and variety (I mean, in the past 6 years I graduated college, got married, have moved 4 times, had 4 jobs, and 2 kids...we're talking every size, color, etc...). But, ahhh, the space in my closet and dresser is almost euphoric.

and a few conversations from the family purge event:

B: "but this is such a nice suit, it's a shame to get rid of it"
R: "you got it in high school. it's like 15 years old."
B: "you don't think it will come back in style?"
R: "and then you can be 'that guy' wearing 'the original'? if it does, we'll buy you another..."

and

R: "it's really a pretty dress though, isn't it?"
B: "actually, I think it looks like an old lady."

so, cheers to empty closets and full goodwills....or however you do it...

Haha - yay, I just did the same thing. And I am the opposite, it was sooooo hard because I'm sentimental about everything. But really abercrombie and hollister stuff from HS.....had to go :)

one of my FAVORITE things to do. I just had one of these episodes a few weeks ago and a friend is now happily wearing all of my pants that never really fit me anyways.

This has been my exact week too--in so many ways. Must be something in the weather. Now you have room for new clothes :)
